Everything on the calendar for today
The Orthodox calendar is more than a date. Each day the Church remembers its saints, keeps or breaks the fast, and reads from the Apostle and the Gospel.

What can I eat today? The Orthodox fast in plain words
The Orthodox calendar marks most Wednesdays and Fridays and four seasons of the year as fast days, with different levels of fasting. The app tells you the level for today in these words.
| On the calendar | What it means |
|---|---|
| Strict fast | No meat, fish, dairy, eggs, wine or oil. |
| Wine and oil | Wine and olive oil are allowed; still no meat, fish, dairy or eggs. |
| Fish | Fish is allowed, with wine and oil; still no meat, dairy or eggs. |
| Dairy | Dairy and eggs are allowed, but not meat, as in the week before Great Lent. |
| Fast-free | No fasting, as in Bright Week after Pascha. |
The fast is kept with the blessing of one’s priest, who may ask more or less of each person.
A month at a glance
The month view colours each day by its fast and marks the feasts, with the New and Old Calendar dates side by side.
Plan ahead for a feast, see when the next fast begins, or look up the saint of a family member’s name day. The app counts down to the next fast and the next feast, so they never take you by surprise.

New Calendar or Old Calendar
Orthodox parishes keep the fixed feasts either by the New (Revised Julian) Calendar, on the same civil dates as the Gregorian calendar, or by the Old (Julian) Calendar, which is currently 13 days later. Both keep Pascha on the same day. Choose the calendar your parish keeps, and change it at any time in Settings.
Questions
What does the Orthodox calendar show each day?
Each day of the Orthodox calendar has its feast or commemoration, the saints of the day, the fast, the tone of the week, and the Epistle and Gospel readings. The app shows all of it on one screen, with the saint's icon, life, troparion and kontakion.
What is the difference between the New and Old Orthodox Calendar?
The New (Revised Julian) Calendar keeps the fixed feasts on the same civil dates as the Gregorian calendar; the Old (Julian) Calendar is currently 13 days behind. So Nativity falls on December 25 on the New Calendar and on January 7 on the Old. Pascha is kept on the same day by both. The app follows either, and the month view shows both dates side by side.
Which churches does the app's calendar follow?
The Orthodox Church in America (OCA), the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese (GOARCH). The data comes from each church's own calendar, with their permission, and covers every day through 2036.
Does it tell me if today is a fast day?
Yes. The Today screen says the fast in plain words (strict, wine and oil, fish, dairy, or fast-free), shows what may be eaten, and counts down to the next fast and the next feast.
Is the Orthodox calendar free?
Yes. The calendar, the saints and the readings are free, for good, with no account and no ads.
